Forever Young

Her hands trembling and her heart filled with utter joy and happiness, like a giggling schoolgirl, she gazed lovingly at the man who this day would become her husband until death do them part.

Their wheelchairs were placed side by side in the room filled with family, friends and nursing home attendants, all smiling and tearful, while a seemingly group thought gripped them all: The body may grow old but the heart is forever young.

Abandoned

A single tear slid down his cheek, uncomfortable emotions clogged his throat, and anger pulsed at the injustice of it all when the tiny, perfect hand clasped his finger. With a frustrated sigh, he hugged the baby close, stood, and cast a last look at the carnage that represented two ruined lives, before walking around the lifeless body and handing the precious bundle to the waiting social worker.

Dylan

Little Dylan did not like the fact that Mrs. Butterworth would not answer his question, so he, somewhat reluctantly, decided to ask his mom, “Where do babies come from?” His lovely mother smiled, swam the length of the public pool to reach her son, and slapped him silly with a bologna sandwich.

I met the real her at the local bakery today and we’re going away together this weekend; he’s going to be so pissed.

the wishing well

I saw her near the wishing well, casting in her hard earned coins. Little did I know her mind had settled on a man it seems, a man with a heart once broken, a heart in need of soft and tender love, a heart bruised and ravaged by a cruel and uncompromising heartless woman, a heart like mine.

Never wait

Four little words, locked tightly in her heart all these years, in part because of her stoic upbringing where a show of emotions was embarrassing to her parents, and another part due to her shy nature, suddenly escaped her lips with a fierce gentleness and a welling of relief.

“I love you dad,” now emerged from her heart and her mouth accompanied by the sad realization that these words that she longed to say all her life, would fall on deaf ears, for the dead don’t hear.
